Our Music Mark Award 2018

I am very pleased to inform you that West music markTytherley CE Primary has been nominated by Hampshire Music Service to receive a National Music Award.

They recognised the special value that we place upon music education in our school and have requested that we become a ‘Music Mark School Member’.

music makingOur staff, Mrs Beaton and Mr Sheffield work very hard to ensure that all pupils are able to access and engage with a high-quality music education. This award celebrates our dedicated approach to offering and delivering a broad and balanced curriculum.

I would particularly like to thank all our pupils, who enjoy and actively engage in music sessions, whether it be group ‘Listen 2 Me’ sessions or individual instrumental teaching.

Today, we have received a certificate to mark this achievement – of which we are very proud.

Our New Interactive Smart boards

Bringing ‘Learning to Life’ is very much a part of our whole school vision at West Tytherley CE Primary.  It involves creating a curriculum that is meaningful, memorable, challenging and responsive to the learner’s needs.  It is important for children to embrace technology as a tool for learning – developing important skills that will support them in their education and into their adult lives.

However, for small schools, keeping up with changes in technology is a feat in itself.  This year, we wanted to focus our fundraising efforts on developing our IT provision – and more specifically, purchasing new interactive digital Smartboards for each classroom. We needed to raise £9000 to purchase and install three ‘state-of-the-art’ Smartboards in the school.

Well, I’m really pleased to let you know that we have done it!!  Fabulous news!

Along with our initial capital fund of £4000, we were very grateful for the support that we received from our PTA, local organisations and businesses.

We  would especially like to say a special ‘thank you’ to several members of our School community who helped us fundraise :

  • In July,  a group of six members from our Parent Teacher Association, were sponsored for undertaking ‘The Fan Dance – an intensive and gruelling 24KM SAS Selection Challenge’.
  • Two local businesses, Holbury Consultancy Services and East Brothers, both supported the project and made substantial donations that enabled us to purchase and install our final interactive whiteboard in Beech class.
  • The West Tytherley & Frenchmoor Village Fete fund, together with the Parish Council of West Dean, also made a contribution towards the project – for which we are very grateful.

Our children are enjoying their new interactive boards in the classroom.

Our children say:

“We love the interactive whiteboard because you can use a pen and finger to write and draw with.”

“The boards are better than the projectors because if you stand in front of it, it doesn’t block out the light. ”

“The image is really clear and bright.”
